Job Title: Hostel Manager
Reports to: Board of Directors, Potomac Area Council of HI-USA
Hours: Exempt, Full-Time, Seasonal
Location: HI-Harpers Ferry Hostel, 19123 Sandy Hook Rd., Knoxville MD 21758

Job Responsibilities
Manage 36-bed hostel with attached campground.
Process individual and group reservations by telephone, e-mail and online.
Provide group orientations and check-out.
Collect and accurately record cash and credit card overnights and sale of goods.
Maintain security and safety of the hostel and personal belongings of guests.
Assist in the planning and implementation of special events and fundraising.
Complete housekeeping duties including the daily cleaning of the hostel.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance as needed.
Supervise all staff employed by the hostel.
Actively seek new clientele and promote the hostel to maximize occupancy.
Required Skills, Education, and Certifications
Ability to work effectively without immediate supervision.
Customer service experience and enjoy working with the public.
Conflict resolution skills and ability to act effectively in a crisis.
Flexibility in work schedule to work evenings, early mornings, holidays and weekends.
Other Skills and Abilities Desired
Hostelling experience.
International and/or domestic travel experience.
Familiar with the goals and mission of Hostelling International.
Non-profit marketing and/or management experience.
Computer skills to include Microsoft Office and ASSD.
First Aid and CPR certification.
Salary Range: $15,000-$30,000, based on experience; incentive pay possible. Attached apartment provided; live on-site required. Flexible benefits.
The start date for this position is on or about 1 April 2012 prior to the hostel opening for the season 15 April 2012. The position requires a commitment though 1 December 2012 with the possibility of extension through winter and future seasons. Live-in partner or spouse okay.
