Work/Stay Opportunity in Small, Relaxing Hostel in the American Southwest

The Phoenix Hostel & Cultural Center is located in downtown Phoenix, in the trendy Roosevelt Row Arts District, and only 1 km from the lightrail tram system. Our location is within walking distance to public transport, grocery stores, sports arenas, concert venues, galleries, museums, bars, clubs, and cafes.

We are surrounded my mountains and stunning desert landscapes. Hiking opportunities and scenic drives are in every direction. Phoenix is called the Valley of the Sun for good reason. It averages 299 days of sunshine per year!

The Work:

We look for volunteers who are social with our domestic and international guests, interested in exploring Phoenix and the desert, and most importantly hard-working, reliable cleaners. All volunteers help out for 20-25 hours per week (shifts range from 3 - 6 hours per day, 4-5 days per week). You will be scheduled primarily for breakfast and cleaning shifts. An hour or two per week of yard duty and deep cleaning are rotated among all volunteers. The best part about this is that when you finish in the early afternoon, you have the rest of the day to explore!

Ideally, volunteers will stay with us for anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. We like to have fresh faces around the hostel that are excited to see what the city has to offer!

The Perks:

In exchange for this help, volunteers get a bed in a staff room and free access to our guest breakfast, kitchen, wifi, laundry, and shared staff bicycles. We encourage volunteers to use their 2-3 days off each week to explore Phoenix and the American Southwest. Through our partnership with Hostel International, we can get you a free night or two at a sister hostel while you volunteer with us if you let us know in advance! And, of course, volunteers get the chance to connect with interesting travelers from all over the world!

The Small Print:

All volunteers must complete a one-week trial period to start. Please note -- We have a limited alcohol policy at the hostel and encourage our staff take guests out to explore our neighborhood nightlife spots to party instead. We maintain a more chill and cozy atmosphere at our place with movie nights, dinner nights/BBQs, etc.
