Hostel Manager in Sydney Wanted
Due to internal movement the position of Hostel Manager has arisen at one of Sydney’s funkiest and most exciting backpacking hostels. As part of the Nomads World Hotels group, with hostels in key geographic locations including Melbourne, Sydney, Byron Bay, Noosa , Hervey Bay, Airlie Beach and Cairns in addition to New Zealand & Fiji we are one of the most progressive and dynamic hostelling groups in Australasia.
Nomads Westend Backpackers is a 350 bed backpackers located on Pitt Street in Sydney’s CBD. With a colourful history spanning over 80 years it now provides budget accommodation to youth travellers from around the world.
We are looking for that dynamic individual with lots of confidence, personality and enthusiasm. You must be an experienced and professional hostel manager for this busy backpackers with an impeccable professional background. The successful applicant will be organised, have a strong eye for detail, be customer focused, computer literate and pro-actively and effectively manage the operations and staff of the hostel.

As the Hostel Manager, you will be expected to lead your team from the front. A strong operations background in Front Office is essential although given the nature of the backpacking environment you will be expected to have a broad knowledge of accounting, administration, maintenance, housekeeping, in-house entertainment, sales, marketing & promotions.
You will be responsible for:
- Overseeing daily operations and ensuring the smooth operation of the front desk.
- Supervision and training of staff in the reception and communication areas.
- Working with and liaising between the Business Owner and Management Company to ensure that property standards are being met and policy and procedures adhered to.
- Cashiering & Auditing of Front Office Team.
You must have:
- A love of the Backpacking Industry & Travel
- A friendly and enthusiastic manner, with exceptional customer service skills
- Highly developed leadership skills – you will be working with a large staff
- Ability to train, motivate and inspire staff
- High level organisational and time management skills
- The ability to drive the business and work within financial budgets
- Strong Financial Acumen & Reporting Skills
- Willingness to be accountable and accept responsibility
- Knowledge of ‘Yield Management’ & ‘Online Website Allocations’
- Knowledge of Auditing & Cashiering Procedures
- Experience with the ‘CHARTS’ Front Office System is highly favourable
