The OSA MARIPOSA is a bohemian beach bungalow hostel located on south Zicatela Beach in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca. Its 13 private and community cabins have a maximum capacity of 32 and are set within an organic, fruit-bearing tropical garden. The restaurant serves 100% homemade vegetarian food and is accompanied by a bar that specializes in Oaxacan mezcal. Zicatela is famous for its world-class surf break, the Mexican Pipeline. The OSA MARIPOSA sits at an equal distance from both the Mexican Pipeline and La Punta surf breaks in a quiet residential area with sandy streets.
We are looking to hire a hard-working, full-time hostel manager. This needs to be an honest person with a strong work ethic, great organizational skills, and a professional attitude. As a hostel manager, this person would need to have excellent communication and decision-making skills, be able to manage staff and delegate work responsibilities, and be very attentive to cleanliness and detail. Puerto Escondido is a tourist destination with extreme high and low seasons. The hostel manager would need to possess the control and patience to adapt to the slow-burning vibe of the coast and run the hostel steadily throughout the ups and downs of the whole year.
This is a profit-sharing position that allows the manager to run the hostel freely within certain guidelines. Do you have the drive to manage a successful hostel? Do you believe your experience and drive can help you make more money?
REQUIRED:
Out-going, warm, welcoming, and friendly personality.
Hostel or hotel management experience.
Conversation level Spanish and English skills.
Vegetarian or vegetarian-friendly.
Money management and team coordination skills.
Basic knowledge of vegetarian food preparation and ingredients.
Business promotion and event-planning skills.
Basic knowledge of business website navigation.
Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Basic construction/handyman (fix-er-up) experience.
EXTREMELY HELPFUL:
Commercial kitchen management or cooking experience.
Graphic design and/or artistic skills.
Organic gardening experience.
Internet webpage networking and development skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Managing hostel reservations and room occupancy.
Managing client billing and payments.
On-site accounting, book-keeping, and money management.
Paying monthly bills and taxes.
Receiving guests.
Overseeing restaurant and bar operations.
Overseeing and/or performing property maintenance.
Overseeing and/or performing garden maintenance.
Keep the hostel clean and presentable.
Hostel promotion via internet and street operations.
NOTES:
Our kitchen is 100% vegetarian. No meat or seafood products are allowed in the kitchen or fridge.
We have 4 cats.
It can get very hot and humid in Puerto Escondido.
We don't own a car. Or a microwave. Nor do we have air-conditioning.
