Vidigal, Rio de Janeiro Social Impact Hostel

Favela Experience Vidigal is looking for managers(paid), receptionists, maintenance specialist and more in exchange for accomodation and breakfast.
Who We Are
The first official Favela Experience (FavEx) owned and operated hostel located in the wonderful hillside community of Vidigal was developed in partnership with the NGO, Ser Alzira de Aleiuia. Currently, Fav Ex consists of 8 private rooms and one dorm room and provides guests with an incredible opportunity to enjoy the sweeping panoramic views of Ipanema and Leblon from our large, open terrace.
The hostel is a perfect representation of the Favela Experience mantra and vision. We work in close conjunction with Ser Alzira de Aleiuia to provide them with consultation services, procure grants and donations and develop roles and opportunities for guests and volunteers to get involved. A significant portion of income earned through guest reservations goes back to the NGO to increase their capacity to positively impact the community through expansion and improvement of their course offerings.
We cherish all of our employees and volunteers and seek to provide opportunities for everyone in our organizations to have quality life experiences, cultural and language learning and personal growth. For those that contribute to our organization at a high level and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grown, opportunities will exist for paid positions or to join the future expansion of our social business (www.favelaexperience.com). Staff members will also have the opportunity to participate or lead social volunteer projects in the favela and at the NGO.
Our Location
Vidigal is a pacified favela in Rio's south zone with a population of around 20k people. Vidigal has a very laid back atmosphere and vibe. Vidigal has a strong artist community, a variety of cheap restaurants, bars, rooftop clubs as well as gyms, supermarkets, Capoeira and Jiu Jitsu training centers and more . You will be living a 5-10 minute walk from Vidigal beach, 15 minute walk to Leblon beach, 45 minute hike up the favela to one of the best hikes and views of Rio, Dois Irmaos mountain.
The Job
Since we're such a small Hostel, our staff must be able to carry out a variety of tasks. Working at the Hostel, you will be expected to:
• Follow directions and protocol
• Carry out reception duties (Receiving and attending to clients)
• Clean (Toilets and everything else)
• Capable of doing basic math and computer skills (+, -, x)
• Responsible for cash
• Change Beds
• Give information and make sales
• Enjoy your time in Rio!
Additionally we expect:
-A friendly, helpful, and proactive personality
-3 month minimum committment
-English Fluency, Intermediate Portuguese Skills, Basic or higher Spanish knowledge also a plus.
-The ability to collaborate and work with others as a team.
-Some prior experience working at a hostel before preferred but not required.
-Intermediate Computer Skills
-30-40 hours per week
In exchange for your hard work you will get shared accomodation in our awesome staff apartment located near the bottom of Vidigal which features wi-fi, kitchen, living room, bathroom and terrace. We will also provide a stipend for breakfast.
