Interested in running a beachside eco-hostel in paradise? We are now accepting applicants for the November 2015 season. The start date for this position is October 20, 2015. ABOUT US: Our idyllic beach-front hostel has been serving volunteers and travelers for ten years. We combine low-impact, natural living with projects that actively benefit the village. Rancho Esperanza is located in a quiet, rural fishing village on the northern Pacific coast of Nicaragua. It has been running for 10 years and has grown substantially, as has tourism in the last few years. However, Jiquilillo and its surroundings are still "off-the-beaten-path" where the more adventurous traveller can enjoy the authenticity of a traditional Nicaraguan community. We are not your traditional hostel in that we attract a variety of clientele, from your budget backpacker to families and older couples looking for more comforts. We feature 7 private cabanas and two dormitories, with a maximum capacity of about 40. We also have camping and hammock space on our 3 acres of property. We strongly believe that all guests should receive top-notch service, and rely on our management and staff to provide it in an organized fashion. We serve homemade, fresh food in our restaurant that is run by local staff. We are NOT a party hostel. We have a small and growing family and may be away from the hostel for periods of time. As a result, we are in need of an experienced, independent, organized, committed hostel manager to handle all operations. WHO YOU ARE: We are looking to hire a hard-working, detail-oriented full-time hostel manager. You should have a strong work ethic, great organizational skills, and a professional attitude. As a hostel manager, you would have excellent communication and decision-making skills, be able to manage staff and delegate work responsibilities, and be attentive to detail. It is very hot and sunny here and you work in an open-air environment. You will be working in a rural environment, 1.5 hours by bus from the nearest town; You must be able to go with the flow and be okay with not being connected electronically due to occasional power-outages. A great candidate will have an interest in eco-tourism, great people skills, a positive work ethic, and be willing to work ten+ hour days. The ideal manager will also be highly organized and have no trouble communicating, reading, and writing in English and Spanish. If you speak multiple languages, this is even better! We will give preference to applicants who have traveled extensively in Central America, understand hostel life, are comfortable living in the campo, and have management and/or hospitality experience. Surfers are encouraged to apply. You must be able to commit to a minimum of ten months, with a strong preference for longer commitments. WHAT YOU DO: Management responsibilities will include day-to-day operations of running the hostel, including managing an 8-person staff, administrative duties, guest billing, guest relations, scheduling tours, taking inventory for kitchen and hostel supplies, managing the restaurant, managing renovations and property maintenance, and conducting business in the nearest city, Chinandega. WE PROVIDE: Private cabana accommodations, three meals a day, and a monthly salary of $200, plus a share in the profits based on length of employment, and private room and board in an on-site cabaña are provided. We also pay for your visa renewal fees, including transportation, accommodations, and food during that time. Upon successful completion of your agreed upon time, reimbursement for full or partial flight costs will be considered and discussed. The manager will have no living expenses while employed at Rancho Esperanza, aside from any beverages you choose to consume from the bar, which will be provided at a discounted rate.
